Crazy Hat Party!

Every summer, my neighborhood throws a big block party. We all chip in a fixed amount for the food, drink, and party supplies and it always turns out great. Each year, we try to do something different – a new twist you might say – just to keep it fun; to keep it from getting stale since it’s something we hold annually. This year, we came up with the awesome idea to have a “crazy hat” party. Basically, the idea is to give each and every person at the party a crazy hat to wear for the duration of the party. We figured it would make for great laughs and great pictures. Of course, once we came up with that brilliant concept, we had to figure out where to get all the different hats from, and on a budget. I, personally, didn’t think we could do it, not easily anyway.

Thankfully, my neighbor had just used this great party supply website for her son’s first birthday, so she was able to recommend looking there first. Let me tell you, the Internet is a wonderful thing. This site had thousands upon thousands of party supplies and a whole section devoted to hats and hats alone. Not only that, most of the hats were discount party supplies – even better! I’m telling you, there was every party supply you could possibly imagine: wedding party supplies, baby shower party supplies, themed party supplies, birthday party supplies of all varying kinds and types and years, and more! The hat section had so many different types of hats to choose from, we didn’t have to look anywhere else. They had cowboy hats, joker hats, top hats, birthday cake hats, a cat-head hat, a chef hat, princess hats, a hat shaped like a cow, a parrot hat, a dragon hat, police helmets, sailor hats, even an elephant hat! Plus, we were able to purchase all our other party supplies for the party at the same time at bulk and discount prices, such as plates and napkins and cups.

The block party was a huge success and everyone loved the hats. The kids got a kick out of them and the adults had a great time laughing at each other’s ridiculous hats. And, just like I predicted, they made for great pictures.

Italian Party Supplies

My grandmother and grandfather from Italy have been staying with my family here in the United States for the past six months. My grandmother is sick and is taking advantage of one of the best doctors in the world who specializes in her disease and who happens to be based at a hospital near my parents’ house. Of course, this is a stressful time for my family, especially for my grandfather. Not only is his wife very sick, but they have also both been transplanted to a foreign country where they know no one but us. My grandfather is a very social man, so I know it is very hard on him. Also, he has great love for his country – (he was not happy at all when my father decided to move to America).

Last week was my grandfather’s 78th birthday party. I really wanted to help make the day special for him so I thought I’d make it an Italian themed party. It goes without saying that the food would be all-Italian as would the music, but that’s just like any other Sunday dinner we have with the family only on a larger scale. I wanted something more. I went online and googled birthday party supplies. A few clicks later, I was on this great party supply website boasting 60,000 party supplies. And wouldn’t you know it? They had a selection of Italian themed party supplies! I couldn’t believe my luck! Real cute stuff too! I was able to get Italian flags for everyone to wave. I also got these cute centerpieces with the Italian flag colors. Also, there was this great banner proclaiming, “Viva Italia!” that I purchased as well. Plus, I was able to get invitations, an Italian music CD compilation, and these cute little Italian flag toothpicks for the appetizers and other finger food.

Upon first entering the basement and seeing all the Italian flags and colors all over the place, my grandfather grinned from ear to ear. It was the first genuine smile I had seen on his face in a really long time. He was very touched by my efforts to make him feel at home for his birthday. He thanked me over and over again. The party was a hit!

P.S. All the party supplies I purchased were discount party supplies, so it didn’t break the bank either!

70s Themed Party Supplies

Did you ever have a friend who you felt was born in the wrong decade? My friend Anna is just such a person. She was born in 1981, but is obsessed with the 70s decade – the music, the clothes, the “groovy” vibe, the TV show – all of it. She is constantly dragging me to consignment shops in search of authentic 70s gear. She owns a record player as well and is always on the lookout for those great vintage albums she loves. She is like a walking throwback. It’s great. I love her for it.

Last week it was her 27th birthday. Now, for most people, this is not a significant year, but for Anna, whose favorite number has always been 27 since the time she knew numbers, it’s a huge birthday- one of the biggest. I decided I would throw her a big 70s themed birthday bash. It was a brilliant idea, but I soon ran into an enormous snag. Where can I get 70s themed birthday party supplies? I knew that the party supplies, coupled with the outfits people would be wearing and the music, were key to the success of this party. The party supplies needed to be just right to properly set an authentic “groovy” 70s mood. The first place I looked was the party supply store in my town. No luck there at all. So, I branched out to neighboring towns, but no luck there either. Oh sure, I found the odd thing here or there that could work, but not nearly enough. Thankfully, I was smart enough to go online and see what my options were there. A whole new world opened up to me, let me tell you. I found this great site with over 60,000 party supplies offered on it. I’m talking discount party supplies, bulk party supplies, baby shower party supplies, retirement party supplies, even religious party supplies, and yes, 70s party supplies! They had the best stuff – cool “scene setters” you could hang up on the walls, groovy trippy colorful plates/napkins/cups/tablecloths, invitations, even 70s gear to wear!

When Anna walked in and saw the kind of party I had created for her, she got the biggest smile on her face. I knew I had helped bring in her 27th birthday right. It was a great night.

My Son’s First Birthday

- Posted on July 24, 2008

Last week my son turned one. I was so excited to celebrate his first birthday. After all, first birthdays are mostly about the parents. The children are too young to understand what’s going on. I, however, started thinking about what I wanted to do for his birthday when he turned six months old. It’s been the best year of my life so far so I wanted to do it right. I wanted to make sure that at whatever level he could understand, my son would know that we were celebrating him that day.

I didn’t want to get just regular first birthday party supplies. Everybody gets those. But I wasn’t sure what to do. He was too young to appreciate, say, a Disney-themed party or a cowboy-themed party or something like that. Those birthdays will come later. I was at a loss. (And annoying my husband who could not understand why I was being so “crazy” over this. It took a couple of hours before we talked again after he said that.) Still, I was determined. I went online the nest day and searched out first birthday party supplies. A couple of clicks and I was on this great website that boasted 60,000 party supplies. They had every kind of party supply you could imagine – from graduation party supplies to communion party supplies to baby shower party supplies. I wish I had known of this site a year and 9 months ago!

I clicked on the first birthday category and up came this array of different types of first birthday party supplies. That’s when I struck gold. I saw a subsection under the first birthday link for Sesame Street first birthday party supplies. Talk about brilliant! My son loves his Elmo doll more than anything! It was perfect! I bought almost everything in the category – Sesame Street invitations with Elmo, cups, plates and napkins with Elmo, tablecloths with Elmo, centerpieces and more! It turned out really cute when I pulled it all together the day of his party. Best of all, my son “recognized” Elmo, so I felt I had accomplished what I set out to do - that extra special something to make him feel extra specially loved. Also, it made for great pictures! And when he’s older, I can tell him the story of all that I did for his first birthday and he will know on a different level how very much I love him.

Patriotic Party Supplies

Filed under: Party Supplies — Party Supplies Editor @ 7:53 am

For July 4th this year, I threw a 4th barbeque party. Very original, I know, but I love barbeques. That’s what July 4th is all about - that and fireworks. I found these great patriotic red, white and blue party supplies on this party supply website recommended to me by my neighbor. They had a great selection. Best of all, the supplies I found were all in the discount party supplies section so not only were they cute, they were economical as well. Also, it gave me a great idea.

While I was in the “Patriotic” party supply section, I noticed they had something called “Election Time” party supplies. I am, and always have been, really into politics. I think it is vital for all Americans to participate in the voting process. It’s the most effective way we ensure the integrity of the democratic process. I had been feeling pretty low these past couple of elections because I felt that most of the American public, especially younger people, were disengaged from the whole process - apathetic and indifferent about the whole thing. The thought of the emerging generation having such a negative feeling towards the democratic process in this country did not bode a good future for democracy in this country, at least not in my mind.

Thankfully, this election has been different so far. There is an excitement about the democratic process again and it’s palpable. Young people are getting involved and I am so happy about that. Anyway, when I saw these election time party supplies, I knew what I must do. I am going to throw a big election time party in my neighborhood. I live in a large development that shares some great amenities, including a clubhouse, so that’s where I will throw it. I’m going to invite all the people in my development to come celebrate election night and democracy. It doesn’t matter if they’re Republican or Democrat – it’s about the process. I have already purchased all the party supplies through this wonderful website I found. I got election time plates and napkins. I also got an American flag banner and awesome star shaped flag balloons. Plus, a five-foot tall and ten-foot wide American flag! And all for great prices! I am so excited about this party and this election. It is going to be great!

Baby Shower Party Supplies

I’m throwing a baby shower for my sister in September. My sister is a summer baby and loves the season and the warm weather, so in her honor, we are going to have a backyard, outdoor baby shower. (Hopefully, the weather will be warm, but not stifling. That’s why I picked September.) Anyway, I’ve been looking for baby shower party supplies recently, and I’ll tell you, it was hard going in the beginning. I was looking in all the local party supply shops in my area, but without much luck. First, the selection was small. None of what I looked at matched my sister’s personality, if that makes sense. Also, the party supplies were generally overpriced. There are so many different types of party supplies needed for baby showers - games, favors, prizes, centerpieces, and tableware. With so much to buy, things really begin to add up.

Luckily, a friend of mine had just thrown a baby shower for her sister a couple of months ago. She recommended this great website that has like 60,000 different party supplies. According to my friend, they had a large selection of discount party supplies in particular. I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical at first. I was worried about the quality of the supplies, but my friend assured me that they were great. So I checked it out and let me tell you, she was right. First, talk about huge selection. I couldn’t believe how many baby shower party supplies there were to choose from. And they had all the supplies you could possibly need! I was able to get the invitations, the party favors, all the various prizes, all the games, plus banners, centerpieces and accessories and, of course, the tableware - i.e. plates, napkins, cups, and tablecloths. Now, you would think with all that, it would have cost me an arm and a leg. But I was able to purchase every party supply in the discount party supplies section! And it wasn’t like I felt I had sacrificed what I really wanted by purchasing discount, which is sometimes what happens. I had the opposite experience actually. Everything I wanted was discount!

Yesterday, my baby shower party supplies arrived. They are fabulous! My friend was right – the quality is great. This is shaping up to be a great party and I couldn’t be more pleased.

Floral Party Supplies

I have a mother who is obsessed with gardening. She got into it after all us kids moved out of the house. I think it satisfies the nurturing part of her nature – a part of her that is still very strong and viable. Just last summer, she and my Dad moved to Denver, Colorado. It has turned out to be a great move for them. Neither of them were very happy staying in New Jersey, where I grew up. They really wanted to scale down and live the city life again, with all its culture and art and liveliness, like they did when they first met in college. My sister lives just outside Denver, so that was a huge draw for them. Also, Denver is a very affordable city, unlike the bigger ones like New York and Los Angeles, where you have to be rich to fully enjoy all the city has to offer.

My parents are renting this cute loft apartment right across form Coors Field in downtown Denver. They are both so happy there. The one thing they don’t have anymore, however, is a garden. My mom has flowerpots on her balcony, of course, but it’s just not the same thing. She and my dad became members of the botanical gardens in Denver, too, but that’s not the same either. My mother’s birthday is in March (Spring of course!) and my Dad bought the two of them roundtrip airfare home as part of her birthday present. I decided to throw an outdoor garden party for her birthday. I had tons of flowers ordered and arranged all over my backyard. I rented these sweet garden tables with matching chairs too. And I found this great online party supply store for all my floral birthday party supplies. They had such a great selection and I was able to mix and match in a truly creative and memorable way. Best part of it all was that most of the party supplies I purchased were discount party supplies, so it didn’t break the bank either.

My mom loved her floral garden party. It truly was a great success. It was a wonderful way to show her how much I love her.

My Grandpa’s Birthday Party Supplies

- Posted on July 15, 2008

So I have this awesome grandpa whom I love dearly. The best thing about my grandpa is his sense of humor. My grandpa laughs at everything, and himself quite a lot. He’s one of those people who just doesn’t take life too seriously and I’ve never met anyone who’s enjoyed life more. Recently, we threw him a huge 80th birthday party bash. We had over a hundred people there. My grandpa is a big barbeque guy, so we hired a grill man to come with a large grill and cook hot dogs and hamburgers and chicken and steaks for the whole party. We had some sides of potato and macaroni salad, fresh green salad, and fruits brought in from a local store and, of course, we bought a lot of beer and alcohol.

My mom and I didn’t want to rent tableware and glassware. It just wasn’t that type of party. We wanted a much more relaxed feel in keeping with the barbeque theme, but we also didn’t want to use ugly, boring generic white paper plates and things like that. It was his 80th birthday after all.

I went online to this party supply website I had heard of that boasted 60,000 party supplies. I had a friend who recently used this online resource and she had found great discount party supplies and bulk party supplies for a birthday party for her son. Discount and bulk were music to my ears, being that we were serving so many people. Anyway, I knew they were good, but I was shocked at the number of choices there were. They had 50s themed party supplies, luau party supplies, casino party supplies, baby shower party supplies, and the list could just keep going. I found these hysterical “over the hill” birthday party supplies that I knew my grandpa would get a kick out of. I got this great lawn sign that read “Happy Birthday to the ‘Old Buzzard.’”It was awesome.

I also got this hysterical party decoration that looked like the yellow police tape they block off crime scenes with only it had “Senior moment in progress” written all across it. I placed the tape around the entire perimeter of my parent’s backyard. The site also had all these great gag party supplies like an “Old Fart” fan and an over the hill jumbo bib, which my grandpa proudly wore while devouring his hot dog and hamburger. I was able to get festive plates, napkins, cups, and tablecloths as well – all from this one site and all at a great price!

My grandpa had a really fun birthday party, let me tell you. He laughed and laughed over all the little touches of humor my mom and I inserted into the day for him. It was a wonderful party, truly.

Casino Night Party!

- Posted on July 14, 2008

Filed under: Party Supplies — Party Supplies Editor @ 2:14 pm

My best girlfriend loves casinos. I don’t really understand it myself. Not that I have anything against them, I just don’t love them like she does. She’s not even that big of a gambler. I think she just digs the excitement factor; the energy you find in a really great casino. For her 30th birthday, we were planning a trip to Vegas. She was so excited. Unfortunately, last minute, something came up at her work and we were forced to cancel the trip. She was so bummed! It didn’t look like we were going to be able to make our trip to Vegas for at least six months, maybe more. I really did not want her to have terrible memories about her 30th birthday so I decided to throw her a surprise “Casino Night” party. All of our friends thought it was a brilliant idea.

I rented a couple of tables for playing different games. And I found this great website for casino party supplies! I tried a couple of local party supply stores first, but had no luck. Their inventory is just too small and I wanted to go all out for my best friend. One salesperson I encountered actually suggested I use regular “black and white” birthday party supplies along with some signs I would make on my own with a computer program and the tables I rented and leave it at that. I was not going to settle for that! I went on my computer, plugged in party supplies, and up came this great site with thousands and thousands of party supplies to choose from. Of course, not all of them were casino supplies, but they did have a great selection. They had such a good selection, I was able to find a lot of my casino party supplies in the discount party supplies section!

There were casino hats, napkins, tablecloths, plates and cups! They even had beads for us to wear and dealer armbands and visors! I purchased almost every single item they had. By the time I was finished, the only way you could tell that my basement was not a real casino was the lack of cigarette smoke and the fact that my carpet is a solid color instead of the crazy patterns casino carpets have. (Why do they do that, I’ve always wondered?) I told my friend that I was taking her out to a club for her birthday to be sure she would dress up. We had planned that she would come over to my place first for a pre-cocktail. (I keep the bar in my house in the basement, so this was perfect.) When the lights went on and she saw her very own casino room filled with all her friends, she started to cry. (Tears of happiness of course.) It truly was a great night, and she is still thanking me for it two months later!

Princess Themed Party Supplies

- Posted on July 9, 2008

Filed under: Party Supplies — Party Supplies Editor @ 5:07 pm

So, it’s your daughter’s 7th birthday and she is obsessed with princesses. What to do? Throw her a princess themed birthday party! If the thought going through your head right now sounds something like, “Duh! I’ve already thought of that, genius. My problem is not what kind of party to throw, but how to find the party supplies for this princess party?” Well, ladies, welcome to the Internet. No longer are we moms subject to whatever decorations we can find at the local party supply store. Now there are these great online party supply resources that have literally thousands of party supplies to choose from – from birthday party supplies to graduation party supplies to baby shower party supplies to retirement party supplies to whatever kind of party you can come up with party supplies! It’s really wonderful!

Anyway, back to the princess party supplies. For my daughter’s birthday, I decided to go with the Disney princesses theme. It was in the summer, so the party was both inside and outside. I got these great “scene setters” – a palace setting for the inside and a garden setting for the outside. My family room was instantly converted into a castle wonderland and my backyard became a royal garden. I also added specific princess stand ups to the overall set – Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid, Belle, and Cinderella. So not only did my family room resemble the inside of a palace, the various princesses my little girl is in love with were also in attendance. The girls all squealed when they first entered my house.

As each girl waked in, she was given a royal wand and a princess hat to wear. We played “Kiss the Frog”, which is a version of pin the tail on the donkey that works really well at princess parties. I had princess balloons, princess napkins, plates, and tablecloths. For the party favors, each girl got a princess crown necklace. All the necklaces came in this adorable crown shaped jewelry box. The girls loved them. My little girl was so happy with how it all turned out. I got the biggest hug and kiss at the end to prove it. The Internet is truly a wonderful thing.
